Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Cabernet in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"

Camping And Learning

Thursday we watched the weather and it looked like it was going to be a good weekend to hit the road and get in some camping before the weather starts getting to cold.

001

We loaded up and headed to the state park about a hour way. Thinking since it was Thursday we would get about any camp site we wanted.Wrong.

As we drove around thru the camp ground all the good sites either was taken or had a reserved card on it. Guess we weren’t the only ones watching the weather.

Found a suitable place to park and set up.

002It was a nice spot with no one on either side of us. Thinking it was going to be a nice and quite weekend.

008  003

Wrong again!!!! Friday here they came camper after camper, pickups full of bikes and kids  and dogs. The next thing we knew we were over run and felt like the walls were closing in on us.

We learned another lesson on this camping thing. DON’T go camping on the weekend especially when you live close to a large city. We will start going during the week or boon docking and be home on the weekend.

We did make the best of it made and used the new Dutch Oven to make beef stew.

Max enjoys sitting around the camp fire in his own chair sitting next to mine..

I did get out to ride my bike early Friday around the lake there is a paved bike path that is 4 miles around it.

Angela had a bum leg so she didn't get to ride her bike. We did get the dog’s out for a walk around the lake.

022All and all we had a good time and learned a lesson on what we like and don’t like in our camping.

ONE DAY CLOSER TO OUR DREAM

But if your full timing, you will always have to be somewhere on weekends too.

Sounds like you made the most of your weekend. It's more fun when you're fulltime and you can sit and watch the folks roll in on Fri & out on Sun!

At least you made the best of it. That stew sure looks yummy.
Camping on the weekend in the last bit of nice weather can be tough. If you can go again soon during the week.

That's why I like going to the Lake, or Iowa during the week, in the summer I can still take Adam, but now it's just me & Rigg's. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna....

Looks like a nice camping spot. Too bad about all the noise but it seems you still had a good time.

Week-ends can be noisy in campgrounds when the weather is good. As a full timer we try to find out of the way places on week-ends. Don't always succeed must sometimes we really do good. And like Alan and Marilyn said - we watched them come in on Friday night and leave on Sunday. Then it's our time again.

I laughed at your dog's "chair" beside yours as my Sammy is the same way, has to have his own chair and it has to be right next to mine. So cute!

Looks like a nice place to camp sans neighbors!

Cheers!

Nice pictures. Very scenic. Kids and noise can be annoying but I would rather see them out learning about and enjoying nature than plunked in front of a video game. If the parents would just teach these kids some respect for others, it would make it all a little easier on everyone. Hope you get some weekday trips in soon.

We like a variety. Sometimes the quiet, other times lots going on. Roll with the flow. But- too much commotion when the only time to camp is the weekend can be trying.

We have been surprised this summer on how all the campgrounds we have been in are very busy. The last one had barely any spots with over 130 available.

The state park looks like a nice one, even if crowded.

Whenever we see lots of bikes we know it isn't going to be quiet. We just stay inside on the weekends and let the folks that have a time issue have the campground for their fun. Now that we "part-time" we only go out on week days...it is soooo quiet.
Looks like a really nice campground and your spot looks very nice to me!! Hope you enjoyed that campfire!!

Seems you just find the perfect spot for a nice, relaxing time and

here comes the invasion! Now I do love children but sometimes the quiet is just what we need.
At least you were near water and had a great place to walk and bike.

love your RV! What is the length of it? Looks like you had a beautiful camping spot. I think I am going to like state parks best during the week :)

You know, that's the beauty of Army Corps parks..Us old people fill it up by getting there on Tuesday and stay 2 weeks...However...when you are still working that isn't possible..Trust me..it's lots easier to camp when you retire...and lots cheaper the older you get...

Hey great Blog! Let me tell you that after 15 years of full timing,,,those first few years before and the first few years after starting were the most memorable of it all... Just enjoy......

Looks like a lovely park. I agree with Dennis and Donna. We love COEs. They may be kids but the sites are so far apart and you can actually park way, way far from swing set or anything child related. Sorry it didn't work out but weekends are NOT the best time to go for peace and quiet.

Sorry your weekend wasn't as quiet and peaceful as you wanted, but sure looks like you made the best of it. Looks like a great campground, just not on a weekend.
